Pizza Questions and Answers

Answers to common questions about pizza sizes, styles, delivery, leftovers and choosing local pizzerias.

These answers are general planning guidance. Restaurant sizes, recipes and procedures vary, and food-allergy or safety questions require current information.

How many slices are in a large pizza?

Often eight, but the number is chosen by the restaurant. Confirm diameter and cut count because eight slices from a 16-inch pizza are much larger than eight from a 12-inch pizza.

How much pizza should I order per person?

A practical starting point is about three conventional slices per adult when pizza is the main meal, then adjust for children, sides, appetite and thick styles.

Is a 16-inch pizza much bigger than a 12-inch pizza?

Yes. A 16-inch round pizza has about 201 square inches of area, compared with about 113 square inches for a 12-inch pizza.

Which pizza style travels best?

New York–style, conventional medium crust, Detroit, Sicilian and many pan pizzas usually tolerate a moderate trip better than delicate Neapolitan pizza.

What is the difference between Detroit and Sicilian pizza?

Both can be rectangular and thick. Detroit style is strongly associated with a crisp oil-fried base and cheese caramelized against the pan edges; American Sicilian pizza is often breadier with different edge treatment.

What is the difference between deep dish and stuffed pizza?

Stuffed pizza adds a second thin dough layer over the filling beneath the top sauce. Deep dish usually has one crust shell.

How do I reheat pizza without making it soggy?

Use a preheated oven or a dry skillet. A skillet works well for one or two slices; an oven is better for several or thick pieces.

How long can pizza stay out?

Official guidance says perishable leftovers should be refrigerated within two hours, or within one hour in very hot conditions above 32°C or 90°F.

How long does leftover pizza last in the refrigerator?

Health Canada advises eating refrigerated leftovers within two to three days or freezing them.

Is gluten-free pizza safe for celiac disease?

A gluten-free crust does not guarantee protection from cross-contact. Ask about flour in the kitchen, separate pans, surfaces, tools and the restaurant’s current procedures.

Is pickup cheaper than delivery?

Often, but not always. Compare direct menu prices, delivery and service fees, tip, travel cost and pickup specials.

How can I compare pizza value?

Compare actual dimensions and price per area for similar styles, then include toppings, thickness, fees and whether leftovers will be used.
