An air fryer moves hot air aggressively, so it can restore a crisp crust quickly. The same speed can overcook cheese and exposed toppings if the temperature is too high.
Preheat only if your model benefits
Some air fryers heat nearly instantly. Follow the appliance instructions and use a clean basket.
Use moderate temperature
Start around 175–190°C (350–375°F). Thick slices need a lower temperature and more time than thin slices.
Leave space around slices
Air must circulate. Overlapping slices heat unevenly.
Check early
Begin checking after three minutes for thin pizza. Add short intervals rather than committing to a long cycle.
Secure light toppings
Loose basil, arugula or paper-thin meat can blow around. Remove delicate finishes before heating.
Basket liners can change crispness
Solid parchment or foil can reduce airflow beneath the crust. Use them only when the appliance permits and cleanup requires it. A perforated liner or bare clean basket usually provides better bottom circulation.
Prevent overbrowning
If pepperoni or cheese darkens before a thick centre is hot, reduce the temperature and extend the time. The air fryer’s fan makes exposed toppings cook faster than the interior.
| Pizza | Air-fryer approach |
|---|---|
| Thin slice | Moderate heat; check very early |
| New York slice | Single layer with room around it |
| Detroit square | Lower heat so the centre warms |
| Deep dish | Oven is usually more even |
| Fresh greens on top | Remove before reheating |
