How to Reheat Pizza in the Oven

Use a preheated tray, moderate-to-hot oven and short finish to warm pizza evenly while restoring a crisp base.

The oven is the most reliable method for several slices or thick pizza. It warms the centre more evenly than a skillet and can revive the bottom when the tray is preheated.

Preheat the oven and tray

Heat the oven to about 190–220°C (375–425°F), depending on crust thickness. A preheated sheet pan or pizza stone starts crisping the base immediately.

Use moderate heat for thick slices

Deep dish, stuffed and thick pan pizza need time for the centre to heat. Use the lower end of the range and cover loosely for the first part if the top is browning too quickly.

Use higher heat for thin pizza

Thin slices usually need only a few minutes at the higher end. Watch the edges closely.

Check the centre

Official food-safety guidance recommends reheating leftovers to 74°C (165°F). A food thermometer is the dependable way to verify thick slices.

Serve immediately

Reheated crust loses crispness as steam builds underneath. Move slices to a plate or rack rather than stacking them.

Use a rack when the base is already crisp

A rack allows hot air to circulate and avoids direct tray contact, useful when you want to warm a slice without frying the bottom further. A preheated tray is better when delivery or refrigeration has softened the base.

Troubleshoot uneven reheating

If the crust is dark before the centre is hot, lower the oven temperature and cover the top loosely. If the cheese is hot but the base remains soft, move the slice to a hotter lower rack or preheated tray for the final minute.
